All The Truth That's In Me by Julie Berry Review

20893344Book blurb (from Goodreads)
Four years ago, Judith and her best friend disappeared from their small town of Roswell Station. Two years ago, only Judith returned, permanently mutilated, reviled and ignored by those who were once her friends and family. Unable to speak, Judith lives like a ghost in her own home, silently pouring out her thoughts to the boy who’s owned her heart as long as she can remember—even if he doesn’t know it—her childhood friend, Lucas. But when Roswell Station is attacked, long-buried secrets come to light, and Judith is forced to choose: continue to live in silence, or recover her voice, even if it means changing her world, and the lives around her, forever.

My review:
This book is AMAZING!!! I usually do not like to read books like this but this one was OH MY GOD! sooo good!
It was extremely haunting, and mysterious. I had not idea what was going on half the time (which was a good thing for me kept things interesting), and really felt for the characters.
When something good happened I would just curl up into a ball wile hugging the book and smile like an idiot (luckily no one ever saw me do this...) It takes a special type of writer to make a reader feel such deep emotion towards characters.
The romance between Judith and Lucas was really sweet. I was happy with the way it turned out especially because I wasn't 100% sure how all of it was going to play out.
The idea of the book was everywhere and at one place the whole time. It went from her being kidnapped, to having her tongue cut out, family issues, war and love.
I can't say anything negative about this book. I really can't.  I agree with every 5 star review of this book so (in case you haven't guesses yet) I will be giving this book 5 out of 5 stars:

All The Truth That's In Me by Julie Berry Progress/thoughts

20893344Pages 1-35
My thoughts:
I don't really like to read non-fanitsy or dystopian books so when I do I have to pick the right ones. Picking up this book was defiantly a good choice. I like how the chapters are really short and cut of in the middle of the page so the next one can start right under it. Judith is a really interesting character to read about with a haunting back story which I really want to know more about. The romance in this book (or lack of) is very one way. A four year age difference!? A fourteen year old has fallen for a eighteen year old, but not the other way around. I am extremely curious to see how this one plays out. It says in the blurb that she has to find her voice.... does that mean that she has to learn to speak with half a tongue? I don't know but I do want to know what they mean by that.

Override (glitch #2) by Heather Anastasiu Review

14759331Book Blurb (from goodreads):
Zoe is free. She has escaped the enslavement of the Community, disconnected from the hardware that had controlled her every thought and emotion, and evaded capture by the Chancellor intent on killing her. She is finally free, but she is far from safe.

Zoe and Adrien hide themselves from detection at the Foundation, an academy that trains teen glitchers to fight in the Resistance movement. Together, Zoe and her new team of superhuman fighters must risk their lives to rescue other glitchers and humans from the Chancellor's control. Challenges abound at every turn, and Adrien, who has become silent, distant, and tormented by his visions of the future, only adds to the growing certainty of defeat. But worst of all, as Zoe's team fights against impossible odds, distrust and betrayal leads to the terrible discovery that their greatest threat could already be lurking behind the safe walls of the Foundation.

My review:
This book was everything that you could expect from a second book in a series. In my opinion this book was not as good as the first one but was still a fun read.
It was hard to create theories in this book because as soon as you think that you know what is going to happen it doesn't.
The plot twist in this book was brilliantly done. You didn't expect a thing until it was too late.
I was expecting more of a love triangle in this book and not just Adrien and Max, but maybe also one of the other girls which were introduced into the story but it did not happen which made me a very happy bookworm.
The plot of this book was strong and clear from the start. The book had a direction and Heather Anastasiu stuck to it very well and managed to put in twists and turns.
The end is so heart breaking. I DON'T UNDERSTAND! What was Heather Anastasiu doing when she wrote the final chapters? Did she cry? Or did she sit down, laugh and have a cup of tea with Satan (yes that is from instagram but it is true)
Overall the book was well written, the plot twist was well done and is perfect for dystopian book lovers (like me)
Even though this was a second book I felt like Heather Anastasiu did a good job on it.
I give it 3 out of 5 stars like the first one:

Override reading progress update!

SMALL SPOILERS BE CAREFUL!

Pages 119-171
My thoughts:
Zoe has gotten control of her powers and they through her into a mission straight away? What kind of idiots are we dealing with here! She is not ready for something as big as this. Also you would think tht if every mission that you have done has failed or been a trap, would
be a sign that you should lay low for awhile? Obviously not! You do not know what kind of glitcher powers you are dealing with here people, I think some serious hacking to find out is waaaay overdue! EVEN I COULD PROBABLY DO A BETTER JOB AT RUNNING THIS OPERATION! (okay maybe that's pushing it a little.....)
I have a feeling that Max is not actually dead and is going to come back later in the book (maybe?)

override (glitch #2) by Heather Anastasiu: progress

Pages 1-119
My thoughts:
I have to admit I am not enjoying this book as much as the first book but it is still enjoyable. There are not many hints of were the plot is going as well at the moment but I am not very far yet so the book is still developing. I really dislike Xona. I wish that I could get her back-story as well so I can know what happened to her to make her act this way. I would also like to see Zoe and Adrien having some more alone time together since I think that would be what's best for Zoe right now with everything going on.

Went out to the bookstore!

Wile my mum and dad were watching The Maze Runner ( I couldn't watch it because I am going to do that for my Birthday with friends) They dropped me of in Kinokunija. Whilst the infinite sea (the 5th wave #2) was there I decided not to get it because I saw these two other books there which I had to buy. The Infinite sea can wait for a little longer. I mean I already waited a year for it I can wait another week until I go out again. In the book store I spotted Afterworlds which I have heard sooooooo many things about and I am really interested in, and all the truth that's in me which just has a beautiful cover and an interesting plot. Yep I am defiantly going to read these two books very soon....

Maze runner is a awsome book

I gave The Maze Runner 5 out of 5 stars?? Check out the review below or in the review section!

The Maze Runner (The Maze Runner #1) by James Dashner

Book Blurb (from goodreads):
"If you ain’t scared, you ain’t human."

When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his name. He’s surrounded by strangers—boys whose memories are also gone.

"Nice to meet ya, shank. Welcome to the Glade."

Outside the towering stone walls that surround the Glade is a limitless, ever-changing maze. It’s the only way out—and no one’s ever made it through alive.

"Everything is going to change."

Then a girl arrives. The first girl ever. And the message she delivers is terrifying.

Remember. Survive. Run.

My review:
I will admit that the main reason why I started reading this book is because the movie has come out where I live and I would like to see it.
This book is at least in my top 10 books/series.
The plot started of nice and slow and we were not rushed into anything. We were given information when needed, but not all answers were given. Just enough answers though to satisfy the reader at that particular time.
Some people say that it is like the hunger games but they could not be more wrong. There are no similarity's what so ever in this book to the hunger games. It is in a genre all of its own.
At the begging of this book I was having trouble pin pointing the genre. I couldn't decide between dystopian and sci-fi, however now that I have finished the book I think that it is a cross between the two which was done really well.
The characters developed well, and we got to see a lot of them (although not too many to get overwhelmed).
This book had it's fair share of plot twists one of which made me say "oh come on!" out loud. Luckily I was own my own so no one saw me do this.
I regret not reading this book earlier and will continue to read the other books fairly soon after I finish the ones I have now.
I give this book 5 out of 5 starts which will not happen often:

Glitch (glitch #1) Heather Anastasiu Review!

Book blurb (from goodreads):
In the Community, there is no more pain or war. Implanted computer chips have wiped humanity clean of destructive emotions, and thoughts are replaced by a feed from the Link network.

When Zoe starts to malfunction (or “glitch”), she suddenly begins having her own thoughts, feelings, and identity. Any anomalies must be immediately reported and repaired, but Zoe has a secret so dark it will mean certain deactivation if she is caught: her glitches have given her uncontrollable telekinetic powers.

As Zoe struggles to control her abilities and stay hidden, she meets other glitchers including Max, who can disguise his appearance, and Adrien, who has visions of the future. Both boys introduce Zoe to feelings that are entirely new. Together, this growing band of glitchers must find a way to free themselves from the controlling hands of the Community before they’re caught and deactivated, or worse.

My review:
This book, whilst not my favourite is a fairly enjoyable book.
The idea of the book was not the most original Heather Anastasiu manged to put her own twist onto it. The thought of not being able to feel emotions and have some one else control my actions would drive me to the bridge of insanity (but then again how would I know? They would control my thoughts as well..).
The way the Heather described the transitions between connecting and disconnecting from the link was perfectly done with how she described colour flooding back/out of the world again.
Max frustrated me in the book. I hated how he naturally assumed that Zoe felt for him the same way he did for her. I can not say too much about his character to so I can avoid spoilers but I can tell you the he is a complete A*****E!
Adrien is a really sweet character but at the same time a very hard and passionate one. He understands his emotions well and know how to deal with them himself along with also being able to help people understand theirs.
The 'powers' in this book made a sort of weird sense. It made sense that the human brain adapted to the chips and worked it's way around them giving the person abilities whilst doing so because it would have to tap into different parts of the brain to override the chips control right? So the telekinesis and x-ray vision made sense in a way. However I do not see the logic in being able to affect other people around you with making yourself look like anyone or making anyone do what you want them to just by talking or even seeing visions of the future seemed a bit far fetched to me but Hay! It's a faction/dystopian novel! I'm not complaining...... that much.
Overall I would say that this is a decent book with a twist at the end which will leave you wanting the next book (luckily I already have it)
I give this book 3 out of 5 stars:

Glitch Process/thoughts update....

This has small spoilers nothing that will really ruin the book but be careful! (it also contains quite a bit of frustration....)

Pages 1-160
My thoughts:
I am finding that this book is a good read but nothing to spectacular (my opinion). I love Adrien. I think that he is a good character and treats Zoe good. I have mixed feelings about Max though, he seems to be ahead of himself naturally assuming that Zoe has the same feelings for him just because she is glitching as well. It really irritates me when they interact I preferred it more when he was the mindless person that needed tutoring. The whole concept of the book, I think, is really good. The thought of losing all of my emotions and dulling my senses scares me. Also since I am fairly strong willed and stubborn (at times) and to be honest,
having that taken away from me would more or less drive me completely insane.
The part where I am now unnerves (and sometimes frustrates me) is now when she has to go BACK down there and has no memory of what has happened above ground. Then she sees Adrien and doesn't think that she could trust him... I wanted to slap those memories right back into her. Then he goes and saves her life (again) and then she STILL doesn't trust him yet? Come on she is just making up reasons now Maybe the community had planned this all to make me trust him and then he will turn me in. (not a direct quote), Come on! Next thing you know she will  be saying that she can't trust him because he might secretly be a giraffe.... (how cool would that be though?). HE SAVED YOUR LIFE 3 TIMES!!!! Trust him again, be together!
Okay i'm done.

Would you rather...? (book edition)

So I am lying in my bed bored and don't know what to do, so I decided it might be fun to do the  Would you rather book tag. I wasn't tagged (obviously) but you don't really need to be tagged to do this kid of things do you? So I will be answering the questions that go along with this tag and maybe you will also find out some more information about me. :)

1)Would you rather read only Trilogies or stand-alones?
This is a hard question because I mostly read trilogies because you come across them the most but they all seem to have a really good first book, then a okay second one and you could always leave it at the second because the third is sometimes just dragging on. Stand-alones can also be good fun but you can never get all of that character development that you can get in a trilogy. Because of this I will be picking only trilogies since I really like to see characters develop through the story in case you haven't already realized....

2)Would you rather read only Male authors or only Female?
I never EVER pick a book based on the gender of the author. However having to pick on I will have to go for female authors for two reasons. One: Girl power. Two: if I couldn't read female authors I would not be able to read Divergent, Vampire Academy, Bloodlines, The darkest minds, shatter me... Should I go on I haven't even made a dent in this list.

3)Would you rather only shop online for books or in bookstores?
This is a no brainer. I have to pick bookstores because it is one of the only places where I feel at peace. When I shop online for books, even though it is more convenient and cheaper, I just don't get the same feeling.

4)Would you rather all books become TV shows or movies?
I have to say movies because even though when they do, do a book-to-movie adaptation they take a lot of things out, in a TV show they would have to put a lot of other stuff in to keep it going and I don't like the idea of that.

5)Would you rather read 5 pages a day or 5 books a week?
Well I more or less read three books a week so I am going to go with reading 5 books a week and 'challenge' myself a bit. 5 pages a day would just drive me crazy!

6)Would you rather be a professional reviewer or a professional author?
This is hard because I love reviewing books and writing. Thinking about it though I think that I may like reviewing a little bit more like microscopic bit more. So because of this I think that I would rather be a professional reviewer.

7)Would you rather only read your top 20 books or only new ones?
Even though I really like my top twenty books I can always still remember them and I am not so big on re-reading books (unless it's Divergent) so I would rather read only new books.

8)Would you rather be a Liberian or a Bookseller?
I would rather be a bookseller because then maybe I can get a discount in the bookstore I work in...?

9)Would you rather read only your favourite genre or all genres but your favourite?
I would rather read only my favourite genre since it is dystopian and I can not live without my dystopian books!

10)Would you rather read only physical books or only e-books?
It is killing me to say this but I would rather read e-books because I read books so fast and have to take multiple books with me when I go away. I also cannot live without my kindle. Although just because I picked only to READ e-books does not mean that I will stop collecting physical ones as well.

New books!

My dad just came back from England with some books which I can not get in Singapore and have been on my to read list for all too long. So no in my possession is the entire Glitch trilogy by Heather Anastasiu!

The Titan's Curse (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #3) by Rick Riordan

Book Blurb (from Goodreads):
IT'S NOT EVERYDAY YOU FIND YOURSELF IN COMBAT WITH A HALF-LION, HALF-HUMAN.

But when you're the son of a Greek god, it happens. And now my friend Annabeth is missing, a goddess is in chains and only five half-blood heroes can join the quest to defeat the doomsday monster.

Oh, and guess what? The Oracle has predicted that not all of us will survive...

My Review
As always, what can you expect from a Percy Jackson book. It is the best book series ever!!! the book was awesome from beginning to end. It was absolutely a joy to read this book. Sometimes the choices Percy make and why he decided to choose like that is really interesting and hilarious. It is also kind of depressing when a character who you know dies. But overall, it is amazing.
Zoe was such a nice character. She didn't replace Annabeth but she did a good job annoying Percy. Because she was a Hunter of Artemis, she doesn't like men, so she naturally hates Percy and doesn't want to have anything to do with him, but in the end they always save each other and become friends which is nice.
The whole plot set is really good and because I am interested in myths, I particularly like this series because you do learn a lot about Greek gods while reading a good fantasy book.
You already know the answer, I give this book 5 out of 5 stars!

The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #2) by Rick Riordan

Book Blurb (from Goodreads):
The heroic son of Poseidon makes an action-packed comeback in the second must-read installment of Rick Riordan's amazing young readers series. Starring Percy Jackson, a "half blood" whose mother is human and whose father is the God of the Sea, Riordan's series combines cliffhanger adventure and Greek mythology lessons that results in true page-turners that get better with each installment. In this episode, The Sea of Monsters, Percy sets out to retrieve the Golden Fleece before his summer camp is destroyed, surpassing the first book's drama and setting the stage for more thrills to come.

My Review
As all the Percy Jackson books, this one is just AMAZING!!! This book holds all the adventure a book needs, and it is also super hilarious. I could go on forever about how awesome this book is, but long story short: Everyone should read a Percy Jackson book, you will never forget this book! I think Percy's description of his adventure is almost the best thing about this book. This is a must read.
I love Percy's description and sarcasm throughout the book.
As always, I find Percy's and Annabeth's quarrels amusing and love to read them. I can't wait to continue to read their adventures and about their numerous near-death experiences.
I definitely give this book 5 out of 5 stars!

Branded (sinners #1) by Abi Ketner and Missy Kalicicki

Book blurb (from Goodreads):
Fifty years ago The Commander came into power and murdered all who opposed him. In his warped mind, the seven deadly sins were the downfall of society.
To punish the guilty, he created the Hole, a place where sinners are branded according to their sins. Sinners are forced to live a less than human existence in deplorable conditions, under the watchful eye of guards who are ready to kill anyone who steps out of line.
Now, LUST wraps around my neck like thick, blue fingers, threatening to choke the life out of me. I’ve been accused of a crime I didn’t commit, and the Hole is my new home.
Constant darkness.
Brutal and savage violence.
Excruciating pain.
Every day is a fight for survival.
But I won’t let them win. I will not die in the Hole.
I am more than my brand. I’m a fighter. My name is Lexi Hamilton, and this is my story.

My review:
When I first started reading this book I didn't even notice that it was written by two authors. Usually that would put me off reading it but since I hadn't noticed it before I found out it didn't really bother me that much. their style of writing was so similar with only small differences that you could only find if you were looking for them like how Cole and Lexi sometimes react differently to each other and their interactions and feelings could differ a bot but apart from that I liked the writing and I think that Abi Ketner and Missy Kalicicki worked really well together and I hope that they continue to do so in the future.
The plot of this book was not clear from the beginning. Lexi had been accused and thrown in the hole and given a guard to protect her. So naturally at first I thought it was a book that was just about survival but and it was but as soon as a rebellion was mentioned it was obvious that was the direction that the book was going to go. I liked that the book took that turn because it filled up the last 100-150 pages of the book with suspenseful and exciting action.
The romance between Cole and Lexi was obvious and I liked how they didn't rush into head first and tried to hide it. It was obvious though that she was going to fall in love with a guard because it was forbidden and when Cole was introduced as her protector I knew it was going to be him and I don't think that, that was a bad thing since he was a good gut with good intentions. My favourite moments in the book (apart from the action) was when Cole and Lexi had some alone time. It was really sweet and made me blush and I love it when books do that to me.
The one down side of this book is that I felt like Cole was a bit controlling at times and even though that worked up tension between characters I do not think that it was written properly because there where times where he was acting strange and had strange mode swings. Another one which actually isn't really a down side more of a complaint that I have is that characters in this book were to fast to forgive each other which even though I did bother me I can learn to live with.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars:

Branded (sinners #1) Progress

Warning: Small spoiler!

Pages 234-246

My thoughts:
Wow so this is being posted 5 or something minutes after the last one? Okay.... But I have found out something interesting.....
So Lexi has just found her brother and they are talking. Because of this I have now got more information about Sutton since he was one of their topics. So Sutton is not the bad person that I started to think that he might be, in fact he was their dad's best friend which makes sense why he new so much about her brother and his whereabouts.

Singapore book store is expanding!?

In Singapore we do not have many bookstores. We have times and another Asian one called Kinokunjia (Kee-no-kun-ya). There is a nice Kinokunjia store next in a shopping center here but it is only one level. While I was out today to the dentist is saw those kind of weird barriers that are put up when they are building/renovating or expanding a shop directly about Kinokunija with it's name and Slogan all over it. So I came to the conclusion that they are building another level!!! That means that they might even expand the YA section. I swear if they do I will forever love this shop. I am waiting....
*jumping up and down with excitement*

I realize now that this information is probably irrelevant to most of you but I still needed to get it off my chest.....

Branded Progress

Warning: Small spoilers in this no big ones if you do not want to get spoiled (even for little things) do not read ahead

pages 4-234

My thoughts:
Wow, this book is good. I love the romance that has blossomed between Cole and Lexi even though it was kind of obvious from the first four pages that she was going to fall for a guard. I understand more or less what the book is about and it is really well written but I am still waiting for some kind of plot twist or reveal which I think (almost know) is coming because some things are not fitting together. I think that maybe Sutton is the Commanders apprentice since I think that he know more than he is letting on. Something is just not right with Sutton and I can't put my finger on it. Yet. i was in class when I read that Alyssa who just so happened to be my favourite character died. Why couldn't there be one of those miracles that only happen in books and she magically gets better..... *sighs*. I have a theory that the virus that she had was made by the commander to kill the sinners since other people are getting it and maybe Sutton has something to do with it???

More Than this by Patrick Ness Review

Book blurb (from goodreads):
“Books are often described as ‘mind-blowing’ but this is one of the few books in which, while reading it, I have exclaimed aloud, ‘Oh. My. God.’ on multiple occasions … Just read it.”
John Green

A boy drowns, desperate and alone in his final moments. He dies.

Then he wakes, naked and bruised and thirsty, but alive.

How can this be? And what is this strange deserted place?

As he struggles to understand what is happening, the boy dares to hope. Might this not be the end? Might there be more to this life, or perhaps this afterlife?

From multi-award-winning Patrick Ness comes one of the most provocative and moving novels of our time.

Okay so before I start this review I am going to do things a little differently. Since I feel like this book should be read without really knowing anything else then what the blurb gives you. So below will be a review on writing and if I liked it and a rating. Under that though in red will be another with more information and A SPOILER since I really need to get it off my chest and say what I think about it. So if you don't really want to know what happens read the one in black, if you do then read the red.

My short review:
Well I think that Patrick Ness did a great job with producing a great book which I will probably be forcing people to read for a long time......
More Than This was filled filled from front to back with excitement, anticipation, questions and plot twist after plot twist which will make your head spin in a good way. The first few pages were it is him dying was so well written I do not know were to start. I felt like I was actually watching it all happen. Well, I felt like that throughout the whole book. I also liked the way how every time he fell asleep we got a memory to give us some useful background information which helps the reader understand more as the book progresses. Want more about this book? Read the red section BUT only if you do not mind the spoiler....
I give this book 4 stars!

RED review:
Lets just jump into this shall we? We start of thinking that this is a cool book were a boy dies and wakes up in the after life alone and has to learn how to cope. That's what we learn from the blurb that's what we are told in part 1. Does Patrick Ness stick to that topic? NO. All of a sudden Seth meets two other kids and then, BAM! Plot twist. The book is not a fantasy anymore it is a dystopian! Now I will not complain about this since I was getting a little bored at the beginning but then it turns into my favourite genre of this year? Thumbs up Patrick Ness I approve. Although I do not think that other people would since maybe it was a too big a plot twist, and usually authors should stay in the genre they started writing the book in but Patrick Ness broke the rules but he did it right. He slowly helped the reader understand what was going on instead of going: BAM! The world ended. Accept it. Now lets move on! No the time that I fully accepted this was by part 3 which is when I think that people should of accepted this information.
Now can I say how cool yet scary 'the driver' was/is? He was on of the most mysterious characters in the book mostly because we never really got to know who he is. That was information that I would have liked to know but I can accept not knowing.
The characters  in this book were well developed and funny which was what this book needed since it was quite a 'heavy' topic to read about.

One more question that I have: WAS IT ALL IN HIS HEAD?????

A bookish heartbreak... :(

I just finished Gold by Talia Vance and OH MY GOD the plot twist and heartbreak! Good thing I didn't finish this book in school, otherwise my teachers would have been shocked by my reaction... OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

Tuesday 9 September 2014

This book is SOOOO good!

I have been reading more than this by Patrick Ness and it is sooooooo good! The plot twist in this surprised me and made me question everything that has ever happened and the knowledge that I have about the place and characters. I am expecting a very dramatic ending....

Sunday 7 September 2014

quick update for you!

Halo! Hola! Hallo (german)!,

If you don't know yet I have joined this blog. We have had a past blog together but that was a epic fail (hopefully we do better this time...) so as you can imagine we have reviews there too. Everyday from now on we will transfer each review one by one from that blog to this one. So if you are interested go check out the review page to see what we have added that day! Also when all of the reviews are transferred we will go back to one review per week otherwise it will get to be too much work with school and all (I think that most of you will be able to relate to this).

Bye! Adios! Auf wiedersehen!

Saturday 6 September 2014

something bothering me....

So I live in Singapore (some of you may of heard of it some may not of) and there isn't many things to do with books here. We have about 2 bookstores (same brand different locations) and one public library. I can live with this since the bookstores are quite big same with the library but what I don't understand is why we can't have big book festivals like they do in America! I really want to go to something like comic con or whatever the people in america go to. They get free books and arcs there! Here we get overpriced books! SOMEBODY FIX THIS!!!!!

Thursday 4 September 2014

Reading something new!

I just finished the darkest minds by Alexandra Bracken (loved it) and have started More than this by Patrick Ness it has a interesting plot....

Tuesday 2 September 2014

Just a little post about reading

I had a very successful reading day today considering that I was in school and then went to do volleyball. I manage to read 254 pages which for me is a lot but I don't know about other people.
